Hello, hello! I understand that some plotting has happened with Rei so I will slide in my own Hino!
Eiji's of the same powerful Hino family as Rei and likely went to many of the same parties and functions Mitsuru might have as a child. He IS a little older than her, though. He just turned 21 this November, but he would have been wandering around the noble scene up until he graduated.
Something that her family would likely be aware of is what happened AFTER he graduated.
Eiji took up volunteer work at an orphanage that tragically caught fire and burned out the whole floor of the tower it was in. Eiji was one of the few people that survived. Afterwards his family went on to talk up how much of a hero Eiji was (which could have been construed as making themselves look good at the expense of their son, depending on how well you know the Hinos.) Eiji ran away into the wilderness after that and was gone for about a year. He lives at the shrine with Rei and doesn't have any contact with any of his family.
Most of this is public knowledge.
Eiji was also present at the Soulfasting Ball, though he was not representing the Hino family, but rather the Hikawa Shrine.
