AU PLANNING MEME (JUNE + JULY)

Given the nature of AU, below is a form that can be used for planning purposes when plotting out your character. While it is not required to fill out the form, we encourage you take a look at the listings in this post and use them as a guide when setting up plots or planning character backgrounds.

Character Name: Ken Ichijouji
Canon Name: Digimon Adventure 02
Brief History: Cinnamon roll who was in the wrong place at the wrong time and ended up with an extremely severe case of early onset chuunibyou (read: declaring himself ruler of a parallel universe, complete with mind control devices, mad science, and really bad fashion sense). Once he gets over that he has to come to terms with it and slowly integrate back into normal life - which is kinda hard due to possessing 0 social skills whatsoever. But he's trying.

AU Ideas: I'm positive he's from Sanctuary! He had a genius older brother, the first Mage in the family in ages, and everybody was very proud and doted on said brother. Who proceeded to die in an accident. Ken blames himself because he thinks he wished his brother away (he was a tiny at the time and when you are small, this is your logic). What I don't know is whether he should be any sort of Enlightened or not, and whether to maintain the "delusions of grandeur" part of his backstory since he was a mild-mannered child genius to people on Earth and only did the crazy dictator thing in a parallel world. Being Enhanced could certainly give him the abilities and the mental instability, but any ideas how to handle that in BNW?
Looking For: There's no point in me even considering apping Ken while he's still in villain mode if nobody wants to deal with that nonsense. So! Is anybody up for any player plots that revolve around a kid with bad hair doing things like using Pokéballs, kicking Lillipups, and calling himself the "Pokémon Kaiser"? Or is the world nearly ending/Gigas potentially declaring war quite enough for everybody without adding a villainous PC to the mix?

...on the flip side, are any villains in need of someone to 1) use while evil and then 2) pick on once recovered? Ken is extremely trollable. It's funny.

Character Name: Hinahoho
Canon Name: Magi: The Adventures of Sinbad (or Sinbad no Bouken)
Brief History: A shy young warrior from an isolated tribe in the north falls into the company of a certain upstart merchant and decides to follow him around the world. He ends up becoming a surrogate big brother/dad to half of the trading company, gets married and has a bunch of kids, and later (way later), because one of the 8 head generals of a newly formed country.

AU Ideas: The most obvious parallel for Hina here is to make him be a native to one of Glacier's fishing villages, since the cultural set up there isn't disimilar to that of the Imuchakk tribes in canon. He's still a young warrior, enlightened of the Ice and Fighting types-- probably with Mastery of Battle-- who is bonded with a peppy little Swinub and wants to become worthy of his new status as a true 'adult' by heading south and seeing what the heck is happening. A certain someone pulled a kill-steal on him during his Coming of Age rite, and he's really ashamed about that.

Besides that, he's a really chill and laidback guy who loves his friends and family as much as he loves a good fight.

Looking For: All kinds of CR! Friends, sparring partners, folks he can be a big brother at. Romance isn't out of the question, either.

Character Name: Elaine Mallory
Canon Name: The Dresden Files
Brief History: Similar to Harry's up through the age of 16, where he nuked the building their mentor was in. Elaine managed to escape, heavily injured, and took refuge far from civilization with a large concentration of fairy Pokemon and a few other types that fell in with the little community.

AU Ideas: In canon, Elaine is gifted at reiki to heal and remove pain. I'm translating this to massaging Pokemon (and trainers too, why not), utilizing her Electricity type to align energies and direct the proper flow. I heard something about Yveltal poisoning stuff, so maybe having the Fairy-type village close enough to be threatened by this would be enough to prompt her to get out into the world and start asking for help to protect the little Pokemon community. She might have ventured out to some other smaller villages for supplies and to treat Pokemon as a means of earning a living.
Looking For: Ways to weave Elaine's pre-game history with other characters for CR opportunities. Maybe she knew your character when she was young (but probably not, she's 40 when she starts). It can be more recent as well. Maybe you just heard about her in passing. Basically, any ideas to help her better fit into the setting are awesome. I'm still trying to familiarize myself with the game history and locations, so suggestions on where the village is located would be really helpful.

Anything else?: The two types I picked for her are Electric/Fairy, and the abilities are Kindred Soul and Child of Unbound Knowledge. Starter Pokemon are probably going to be a Cleffa (from the village) and a Trubbish (she fed it when she was a child and just kind of wound up buddying around with it afterward).

Brief History: Tiny nerd enters military school to get info on missing dad and brother. Somehow ends up with magical robot lion and is now working to DEFEND THE UNIVERSE.

AU Ideas: Keeping things clear of spoilers, the only things I know for certain right now is that Pidge is gonna be a Far From Ordinary trainer with the Engineer perk, specialty in either Electric or Steel. Definitely going to have a Magnemite, and definitely going to be building lots of crazy machines to demolish bad guys with lots of flashy explosions. Beyond that, the only thing I've got pinned down is that Pidge will probably have been hanging out in Refuge for a while, but isn't native to the city. Ideas are welcome!

Character Name: Orihime Inoue
Canon Name: Bleach
Brief History: Appearances to the contrary, Orihime is a huge dork. She's got an odd sense of humor that often makes her seem ditzy, but in actuality she's quite smart. She's also got an old soul, gentle and sympathetic, but completely fearless in the face of danger.

AU Ideas: So far, all I know that I'm doing for sure is Child of the Verdant Forest, and Fairy being one of the types. Maybe she'll collect Flabebes and name them after her powers, I dunno. I do know she'd love Pokemon and surround herself in them. Even the ugly/derpy ones would be cute to her. I think she'd favor Dragon types (due to her canon relationship with Tatsuki), but I don't think the type really applies to her otherwise. The types that might apply well are Grass, Normal, Flying, and possibly Fight.
Looking For: Not sure if I'll app her with a dead brother or not. If I thought someone wanted to play Sora Inoue, I'd love to leave the option to have him still be alive. Alternatively, since it's an AU, I don't mind if she has a cross-canon brother or someone related that's been looking after her/providing long distance support. In canon she had a best friend who stood up for her and drove off bullies, so it'd be awesome to have that kind of person she can depend on and tag around after. Her age can be anywhere from 16-21. Unrequited crushes (either way) are fine too, though Orihime would only be interested in men close to her age. Suggestions on other abilities and the secondary type (if she even has a secondary) are very welcome!

Anything else?: She needs to start out with a Farfetch'd, absolutely.

Well, she grew up in Caldera so they'd probably have to be new friends but this chick can waste some bullies. Particularly if you're planning on setting Orihime up as 16.

Besides, Ryuko needs an overly cheerful weirdo friend.

I'mma ask the mods if it's possible for Orihime to come from Union, but grow up in Caldera somehow. Because I support this CRAU. Ryuko is pretty Tatsuki-ish, and Orihime is good at being the derpy supportive friend (albeit far more respectful of personal space and way less naked).

All Might (Toshinori Yagi) | My Hero Academia

Canon Name: My Hero Academia
Brief History: The world's number one hero, referred to many as the Symbol of Peace due to crime rates plummeting after his debut. He was given a debilitating injury in a brutal battle five years ago and can only hero for brief periods each day. He's recently become a teacher at the top super hero high school to train a successor.

AU Ideas: A shining pillar of strength from Glacier. In his prime Toshinori "All Might" Yagi was hailed as a local hero because of his immense strength and daring exploits. Recently he hasn't been making as many appearances as he used to, this has only caused the people to spread more outlandish stories of their hero.

In truth All Might was terribly wounded in the Reshiram's assault on his home. He still does all he can to help his people but he just doesn't have the strength he used to and doesn't have the heart to tell them.

He'll likely be a Normal or Fighting type with Child of Ever-Changing Skies.

Looking For: I'm basically open to anything. It would be great to have some people buy into his heroic reputation as well as have some people who don't believe it for a second.

Archnemon | Digimon Adventure 02

Brief History: Not a nice lady (digimon). Very goal oriented, prideful and manipulative, she was an ongoing major villain for the series. Her arrogance led to a few impulsive mistakes. She set a lot of things in motion even with what the power of children could undo.

AU Ideas: An enhanced spinarak shifter with an agenda, which is currently to keep an eye on Ken and to learn more about Union itself. She has a lot going on behind the scenes mentally (see: app), so she has to deal with sticking to her orders and then ... figuring out what to do with herself in this strange city. She's not easy to please.

Looking for: People to spy on, argue with, people that would try to approach or befriend her despite her avoidance tendencies, basically anything goes!

Character Name: Garviel Loken
Canon Name: Horus Heresy
Brief History: ... okay he's basically a Space Marine back from when they weren't all in the service of the Empire of catholic space fascists, but were actually cool dudes who believed in secular humanism. There's a bunch of other stuff too, but he was basically the cinnamon roll point of view character who got to stand by, watch, and take part as his father figure turned humanity's hypertechnological golden age into the living hell of warhammer 40k.
AU Ideas: GarvielBasically, Garviel's from Caldera, he's a new member of the Steel Battalion, and he's rough, tough, and from the streets, but with a sense of honor, and a bit of a debt to society to pay. He's noble and idealistic, but... well, he's completely unseasoned as yet. For those who've played with him in AU or OU games before, I'm taking him in his formative years instead of his later years as a badass veteran type guy. He'll be missing his parents (classic missing parents plot idea really), and trying to find his place in the world, beyond simply being a soldier.

Looking For: I'm looking for friends, mentors, rivals, maybe someone he can awkwardly flirt with or try to impress and be dumb about.
