Character Name: Link
Canon Name: Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask
Brief History: So there's this 10yo kid who lives in a forest raised by other kids, who are actually forest spirits of some sort. All of them have a fairy companion, except for him. He gets picked on for it by the leader of the kids but he's friends with everybody else. And then one day, the local dad tree who looks after the entire forest calls Link over and asks him to destroy the curse inside him. In the process, Link finally gets a fairy of his own! Yay! Everything is great!
... Except that once the curse is destroyed, treedad tells Link to Go Forth To Save The World, Whoo Destiny, and promptly dies. Link does, in fact, Go Forth To Save The World, meets a princess, and gets stuck in a space outside of time for seven years. When he wakes up, the world has gone to shit and he is (physically) Suddenly An Adult. More time travel shenanigans happens, Link discovers he isn't a forest spirit after all, and does, in fact, Save The World.
At the end of it all, he gets sent back to his childhood, except he has been ~forever changed~ and doesn't Belong anywhere. He isn't a forest spirit like he thought, and he isn't exactly a kid like he looks like he is any more, and no one remembers or knows about the things he did to Save The World. Also, his fairy buddy leaves. So, he decides to go looking for her, and gets sucked into another Adventure With Time Travel and also, lots of masks and the moon threatening to fall and destroy the world. Far, far in his future, after Link becomes an adult again and a knight, he eventually dies and stays in the forest as a heroic spirit waiting for the next hero to pass on his skills on to.
Bonus points: Link and the princess happened to shatter the timeline of their world into itty bitty pieces. Also, they're reincarnations of a goddess and her chosen hero, stuck in a never-ending reincarnation loop in order to keep the world from being destroyed by various incarnations of an evil demon dude. But only sort of, because two Links have existed at the same time. So that's fun.
AU Ideas: Obviously, a lot of that gets to go right out the window.
- Link is going to be a ten-year-old from the Citadel, because, come on, giant tree. This is also useful to me because I'd like to keep Link's education level pretty simple, and Union is pretty heavy on the schooling. I'm thinking he'll also be a Kindred Spirit. Very likely Fairy type.
- I'd like to keep him an orphan? Having no real parents to speak of and thus being forced to be independent at a young age would be great for his development. That said, I could also very easily saddle him with a Heroic Uncle who went off and died fairly recently as a callback to Link to the Past. Maybe his uncle died when dealing with the lavabeast?
- The reason why Link would be striking out would be because of his bonding with his first Pokemon. I'm thinking of this being a Honedge, as a symbol of the fact that it's pretty common theming for Link to be given a sword and his adventure starting as a result.
- I have no ideas about his potential evolutions. Maybe time-related shenanigans? Music? Masks?? Hero's Shade style stuff??? I don't know. I have no idea.
- If possible, I'd love to keep the reincarnation aspect. I saw that the Sailor Scouts have something like that going, so maybe it's in the realm of possibility?? I don't have any ideas about the history of it beyond that, and I can definitely live without it, but it'd be cool to incorporate that aspect.
Looking For: I... well. Nothing in particular?? Absolutely everything? My thoughts on this are basically that this is Link striking out for adventure For The First Time so that all of his questing will be in-game experiences, for maximum character development and CR flexibilities. So that pretty well means I'm open to... anything and everything. I'm also open to someone taking Link on and being his guardian? That's a very real and pretty cool option, whether it's pre-planned or it just kind of Happens naturally out of CR.

Sanae here is a priestess for that big ol' tree you call home. Obviously we need to do something with this.

Yes, we absolutely should.
Hello, will you be my Saria substituteMaybe already friends or at least acquaintances?? If that works out with what you've already got established?no subject
stupidierless serious, but sure! She's an extremely strong Enlightened, and was made a priestess for this reason, so it fits. Her powers are more weather and nature-based, though. She has lived most of her life in the service of the great tree, within a convent sort of deal. Does that still work with what you have in mind? It could be that he was taken in there as a child.

Hey, still sounds like a Sage to meI think it still works :|a A lot of the background details I have at this point are pretty ambiguous, so I think it's entirely plausible that he visited as a kid, either via adult supervision or because he snuck off and went Exploring and thus poking around in places he probably shouldn't be.

So I figured it'd be easier just to aim for an early OoT canon point instead, basically, and have him go through a bunch of adventures over the course of the game itself. The downside is that he won't have a lot of the maturity under his belt... But this approach would also be a lot of fun.

OKAY BUT ON A MORE PLOTTING SIDE
Totsuka here is a Union native and he'll be happy to introduce anyone to the culture and really just show 'em the ropes and also get into all sorts of shenanigans. With him? For him? On his own? doesn't matter. Looks after peoplee well, plus, he knows people who know people and he's more than anything about having fun and doing new things, so he's always a great sidekick to have around.
Promising? maybe?

Link getting into shenanigans of all sorts is so canon it's fantastic, whether it's his own shenanigans or the shenanigans of other people. When it's the shenanigans of other people, it's even more perfect tbh because Link just Wants To Be Helpful and gets sucked into all kinds of things as a result...
