AU PLANNING MEME
Given the nature of AU, below is a form that can be used for planning purposes when plotting out your character. While it is not required to fill out the form, we encourage you take a look at the listings in this post and use them as a guide when setting up plots or planning character backgrounds.
this is so tl;dr i'm so gomen
Contact Info: PM or
Character Name: Jack Frost
Canon Name: Rise of the Guardians
Brief History: So in like... colonial America, there was a teenager who saved his sister from drowning and died in her stead. And then the Man in the Moon resurrected him, gave him ice powers, named him Jack Frost and set him loose on the world! But unfortunately, Jack lost all memory of his previous life (including the knowledge that he even had a previous life), and was told absolutely fucking nothing about what was happening to him.
Since a spirit like him can't be seen unless he's believed in, and nobody believed in him at all, he spent the next 300 years being alone, bitter, and invisible. Other spirits don't seem to have ever had the time for him, and those that he did meet don't seem to have liked him. He passed the time making snow days, playing pranks, and having snowball fights with kids that walked right through him - and in doing this built a reputation for being a childish, flighty, careless winter spirit. He also had a lot of existential angst on account of the Moon not explaining anything! Fun for the whole family.
AU Ideas: First off, his type would definitely be Ice/Ghost, no question about it. Those are his things. As for backstory stuff, Jack's two most important character aspects are his long period of isolation, and his "centre" of Fun, so those are things that I want to either have in him from the start or develop over time.
Right now, I'm thinking of something along the lines of him being a Homunculus who retained his personality, but most of his memory was lost or fragmented; it's a shitty situation that kind of reflects where he was at the start of canon. The matter of his will is up in the air to him, because the mage that made him just up and vanished right afterwards, and left Jack behind with a lot of existential issues and a desperate desire to learn about his previous life and why the hell the guy even made him at all. (Thanks, Man in the Moon!)
He has poor control of his powers rather than any physical impediment, and on account of the Ice-typing, that can get kind of dangerous at times. Which means a fun life of self-enforced isolation so that he doesn't run the risk of accidentally hurting people! He's as nomadic as he can possibly be, figuring that more time spent in one place = more chance his control slips and somebody gets hurt. The travelling is also, you know, him trying to find the stupid mage that made him so he can get some answers.
There is still definitely a fun side to him, though, so whenever he stops by anywhere, he takes the time to start some snowball fights and ice-sledding for any kids. Aaaaand maybe "haunting" some houses. With all his wandering, characters could have run into him just about anywhere, and he's not great at keeping his head down either - his Pokemon companion is a Duskull, and more than once, they have pretended to "kidnap" bad children to freak a town out. (They definitely just took the kids so they could play games with them.) The fun is pretty much a must-have for him to keep himself together with all that existential angst on his shoulders.
Looking For: He loves kids, sooo he's definitely going to want to gather up everyone his age and younger so he can 1) look after them, and 2) pelt snowballs at them. They're the people he'll make friends with easiest. Pranksters and light-hearted types are always good! Jack's isolation would be self-enforced in BNW, so he'd benefit from having people to lift his spirits and help him to open up. And it might be nice for him to have some kind of responsible people to help stabilise him too, since his idea of dealing with things is not dealing with them at all.
On the "bad for Jack" side of things, it'd be interesting to see how he interacts with any antagonistic CR, considering how incredibly poorly he coped with Pitch needling him in the film. (And his uncomfortable sympathy feelings there, hahaha... COME TEMPT HIM WITH COMPANIONSHIP.) Also, Jack's fun can certainly edge on the mean-spirited side of things - freezing water pipes, ruining Easter, trying to break into North's workshop. So anyone with a darker sense of humour might be able to nudge Jack into some pretty awful shit in the name of his own personal enjoyment.
Anything else?: Jack is aaaaall movie-based until I finally find the time to read the books!! But since BNW is all AU anyway, I don't expect that will change anything because the only gaps that it would be supplementing are canon setting things.
