AU PLANNING MEME

Given the nature of AU, below is a form that can be used for planning purposes when plotting out your character. While it is not required to fill out the form, we encourage you take a look at the listings in this post and use them as a guide when setting up plots or planning character backgrounds.

Character Name: Yuzuru Otonashi (actually I'm between a couple but probably this or a lookalike from another Key series, incidentally)

Since it's not the greatest, Yuzuru is a dead teenager wandering in an afterlife with other dead kids, all of whom lived miserable lives and died with heavy regret. He gets along well with most and is tolerant of a lot of nonsense, and he's one of the smarter members who actually calls people out on their crap sometimes. Also super loving and wants to help everyone in exchange for their happiness and maaaybe some love in return in the form of thank yous, friendships, and love in general.

AU Ideas:
- Grew up being teased alongside Shino and lives alone. His surviving family member is never around and sends meager support.

- He's still a little quiet and even shy with new people he wants to impress, but having a consistent protective friend (or friends?) might make him a touch more confident and willing to joke when he gets the chance. He likes to joke about people he's close to (it means he trusts you!) and make sexuality cracks just for a reaction. He jokes with his best friend about hers so why wouldn't it be funny for everyone? He doesn't actually care when it comes down to it, it's more about people and love than gender to him.

- He's part flying-type Enlightened (and something else that I'm working out still..) and is afraid of heights, so that might invite some teasing or encouragement, depending!

- Because he's dirt poor and practically orphaned but insisting on surviving on little, he's prone to stealing food or idle things to sell at a small profit. Feel free to have a problem with that sweet-looking redheaded kid who stole half of your lunch, or confront him over stealing a trinket of yours. Shino's family sometimes feeds him but they're not thrilled about it.

- Like his canon self, he's going to have some serious amnesia trouble in the AU. Feel free to say you know him from something and... he may not remember what you're talking about, or he might wonder why you knew his adorable, social-butterfly sister before she died. Unlike canon, he won't forget everything.

- He'd be a great servant boy post-recovery from the amnesia accident. He does little things for sustenance and money anyway, so it's easy to assume he's done odd jobs for some families.

- Before his sister passed, he loved buying her books and cute gifts. If you've got ribbons, hair accessories, or anything cute that a sweet little girl might like, he probably tried to get it from you one way or another. Since she's gone, he might be giving away what he got or returning it if it wasn't his...

Looking For:
- Teenage misfits to look up to in this post-apocalyptic world?? Similarly, misfits to guide. Bonus points if he can help with insecurities in subtle ways or get into deep conversations to connect with people.

- People to help nurture his skills. He'll be a great shot (whether I go with guns or a bow, not sure...) and either a decent medic, passionate explorer, or a creative hobbyist with that imagination and weird scheming of his. Except when it comes to lying. He's a terrible liar.

- He's almost always with Shino, but they're not dating and neither has any romantic interest at all in the other. People mistaking them for an item would be great.

I am so on the wrong account for this, but Natalia would totally help nurture skills with a bow if you go that route. And regardless of whether you do or not, it's possible that she might know him if he's done odd jobs for her family.

I'm still deciding on that like I said, but it'd be great to have someone like that teach him ranged tricks and nurture that part of him either way!

And knowing each other through on and off jobs and work relations would be great too, I'm totally on board. ♥

Anyway, since Otonashi's so poor, if he needs help with anything, he could always get into debt with the yakuza Team Not!Rocket Kuzuryuu's gangster family here. Plus Kuzuryuu knows what it's like to have an adorable little sister, even if Kuzuryuu's is. A little more, uh. Demanding.

EXCUSE ME that doesn't sound like a problem that sounds like new friend because we have something in common. The amount of AB! characters I have is kind of sad (even if this is my consistent one...)

He could definitely get in debt with them in preparation for great things if some of his jobs fell through, for instance... and then totally forget that this was the case after his accident, maybe? But getting tangled up with a gangster family sounds just like the kind of horrible thing I'd like to inflict on my tragic dead kid family!!

I only have one AB! journal and I was too scared to use it ever hahahaha god though I stream the show, like, regularly for any friend of mine who hasn't seen it yet. It's that good.

Oh god poor Otonashi. WHY HAVEN'T YOU MADE YOUR FUCKING PAYMENTS IN TWO MONTHS uhh what payments UHHH uhhhhhhhhhhhh UHHHHHHHHH.....It's okay though, Kuzuryuu is kind of nice, just start paying them again now.

I hear that a lot, actually! And I'm just like nnnnnnoooo but there's nothing to be afraid of! Especially with these guys they either love everyone so fiercely or are just weird and themselves. MAYBE SOMEDAY WE'LL EVEN HAVE THAT VISUAL NOVEL, HUH. but oooh I'm always happy to find people who know this canon and can be excited with me! ♥ I have Iwasawa who I never actually play, Yui, and recently made a Hinata on a whim since he's another fave, but that I may or may not use ahhh.

WHAT PAYMENTS UM UM. /SLINKS AWAY This sounds like such a great disaster. I haven't yet decided where he should live! Where is Kuzuryuu living? I may try one of the newer cities, I have to think about it!!

Oh gosh Yui and Iwasawa and Otonashi. I have a Hinata journal too but I've been considering making one for Otonashi on and off for a while. He's just such a good kid. GOD WILL WE EVER GET THAT VN who even knows.

Kuzuryuu lives in the Ninetails Vale neighborhood of Union City, which is a spoooooooky area that's home to a bunch of Ghost- and Psychic-type Enlightened and has kind of a bad rep. His friend Maya Fey's been doing a lot of positive PR for it, and it's probably a little cheaper to live there than in swankier parts of town.

Hinata's a popular one but rarely played, which is tragic! I'd love to see more, so you know if you ever want to play either Hinata or Otonashi I'd totally be game for it ♥ NOT THAT I'M OVERINVESTED OR ANYTHING sighs deeply at self and life choices. BUT YEAH GODDAMNIT WHAT DO YOU MEAN "DELAYED INDEFINITELY AGAIN" we had CGs and a release schedule. Finally someone else who understands this pain and can suffer with me...

Oooh, bad part of town? I'd be up for that! Since Otonashi has no mention of parents I'm still working out their deal, but I might just go with basic abandonment or the remaining survivor of the pair being ~lost, never to be seen again~ I'm not sure.

MAYA WOULD INSIST IT IS NOT A BAD PART OF TOWN but uhh Kuzuryuu lives there so she may be kidding herself a little. Either way Kuzuryuu will treat Otonashi like an adult and expect him to take responsibility for his debts but also isn't gonna be, like, unreasonable about it. Except as his position in society necessitates it. And by society I mean the yakuza.

Since part of his thing with Shino is that they were pushed around a lot. I MEAN HE COULD ALWAYS GO THE A+ ROUTE OF "PROVE TO ME THAT I ACTUALLY HAVE DEBT AND YOU'RE SERIOUS."

I'd like to throw in my lot to have Melaka know him and assume that him and Shino are dating. She's older poor, she also has a dead younger sibling. They have so much to connect over. ... Okay not really necessarily, but I do like the idea of her being at least aware of him. and possibly have having known his sister...? or her brother knew his sister well which might be even worse
