AU PLANNING MEME (DECEMBER + JANUARY)

Given the nature of AU, below is a form that can be used for planning purposes when plotting out your character. While it is not required to fill out the form, we encourage you take a look at the listings in this post and use them as a guide when setting up plots or planning character backgrounds.

Character Name: Sheev Palpatine
Canon Name: Star Wars
Brief History: The secret Sith Lord who masqueraded as a Senator, to arrange a galactic civil war that overthrew the Republic. Then he formed an Empire, exterminated the Jedi, and got to do the best hammy villain lines ever. We're talking some Black Forest maple glaze quality villainy here.

AU Ideas: Palpatine is a humble Councilman of Union, who is concerned first and foremost with agricultural policy. He is typically grandfatherly, kind, and humble; of course, the truth is something else. His act as an Unenlightened, ordinary human is quite an act. In truth, he is a power hungry and vicious manipulator with rather terrible plans for the entire world. He also is the leader of a cult known as the Sith, which rejects the philosophy of the Savior, and instead believes that Enlightened should become the new gods of the world.

He also sometimes moonlights as Darth Sidious, a mysterious cloaked individual who explores ruins and the countryside. He is something of a mysterious, but extremely menacing, figure here.
Looking For: Lots! Palpatine is here to be a bad guy. He has an agenda and he is pushing it. He is looking for people that he can manipulate into doing his bidding; he is also looking for people that he can manipulate into joining the Dark Side him. If you're interested, hit me up. He is out as both Sidious and being a more genial, pleasant fellow as the Councilman.

He can also provide opposition and whatnot. Palpatine is interested in the past; this especially includes ruins, where he wants ancient technology and knowledge. If you're organizing a ruins exploration and want him to try to beat people to the punch, I'm happy to do that!

Lastly, as a simple Councilman, Palpatine has been serving in Union's Council for 43 years. He likely knows any given noble family; he definitely knows anyone else on the Council. Palpatine was typically humble and kind of to the side -- advocating agriculture, infrastructure expansion, and other issues is hardly controversial -- but there can certainly be past interactions.

Anything else?: Palpatine has an obfuscation ability; this keeps people from realizing that he is Enlightened when he pretends to be a simple, unenlightened Councilman. You can read the specifics here.

Since he's a councilman, I imagine he knows Lux's father. Her family has been involved with the council for a number of years. What are your thoughts of them knowing each other, and how do you think he'd treat her? (She was really cute and precocious as a kid)

Oooh, yeah! That makes sense! Palpatine's politics were basically all about improving Union's infrastructure and vaguely populist (but not enough to be offensive to conservatives), if that'd affect how her family interacted with him.

I think he probably was nice to Lux (and, really, other politicians' kids), ostensibly because he doesn't have his own. He probably sent birthday gifts and stuff growing up, but typical gifts for a kid that weren't personalized or especially thoughtful. He definitely approved of her getting more involved in the world and getting married, I think, because he likes it when Enlightened take their destinies into their own hands (so they can join him under his rule and enslave the gods but he's mysteriously leaving that part out). So he might have given her and Ezreal an abruptly nice wedding gift?

Also, Palpatine likes Rhyhorn racing, so that might have come up if there was some noble get together.

Well, he probably knows Councilman Hino's daughter by reputation. She's a bit of a black sheep among the nobles because she chooses to stay out of the limelight and lives in Ninetale's Vale as a priest with a regular person job (Exorcist) but she's pretty popular because of her visible actions in defense of the people of Union. She's going to start becoming more active in politics with his disappearance during the battle (He's going to be found dead later on.)

Maybe it's time for a little cozying up to a wealthy, young heiress with a heroic reputation?

This sounds good to me! He probably knows about Rei and will come check on her because heeeeeeeeeyyyyy an Enlightened playing by their own rules. And she'll be involved in politics, now. (This could be a problem.)

He probably was nice to her, if they met when she was younger, in the same way he's nice to most of his fellow politicians' kids.

I'm perfectly happy and willing to work with you on something like this. Rei's got a heated temper and a few pushes here and there might make it interesting. I doubt she'd ever do anything to compromise her morality but a few questionable choices and a headstrong young woman? Probably an interesting thing.

And I imagine she liked him well enough, in so far as she likes any politician/man.

This sounds cool to me! I think his early plan as Palpatine will be encouraging more readiness for events like the Elite Four (and Gigas); he isn't going to advocate going on the offensive immediately, but he's going to suggest building their defenses up and being ready to strike back if someone insists on waging war on Union. Maybe we can do something with that?

Hitting this up for plotting. You pretty much know what Lenna's current situation is with her father, and that's going to lead to her trying to take a more active hand in the politics of the city. She's not on the Council herself, obviously, so I'm sure she'd appreciate him advocating for her. Also fine with him having known her parents - Councilman Tycoon was a Ranger in his younger days, retiring when he got too old for service and then pursuing a political career. Her mother was a career Council member, largely involved in the same sort of charity Lenna's taken up recently. She died when Lenna was fairly young, but Palpatine's old enough to have known her during her political career.

I sure do! And this sounds good; I imagine Palpatine knew both of the Tycoons, then, and has likely met Lenna in the past. He'll be sending his condolences, of course, and paying his respects.

And promising to help Lenna advocate her interests to the Council. And suggesting a greater defense of Union is a wise idea, et cetera.

Yup, sounds good! She's pretty heavily pacifist, so he'll have to twist it around to that angle, but thankfully she's also overly trusting and honestly kind of dumb.

Ryuko here sure has a lot of anger. I can't promise she'll actually join him rather than telling him to take his evil plan and shove it but there's definitely the potential for him to play on her anger and her Enhanced issues making her prone to losing control of her temper. Maybe ultimately trick her into going berserker as a corrupt Mega Evolution.


Oooon the other hand. The talking is still in the works but I and another player might be pulling in a couple of crooks rising through the ranks of Union's criminal underworld. How would Palpatine like to have some connections in the world of organized crime handling some of his shadier business?

Oooooh. This sounds like fun to me, re: Ryuko! I obviously don't anticipate many (or anyone) joining him but playing with her temper sounds good! As does a mega evolution going berserker. :E

And oooh, criminal contacts are always fun! He can even work with them as Darth Sidious. Black market ancient artifacts and such?

If Palpatine needs some young, naive guy to manipulate and trust-abuse guide and aid, I can gladly offer Right here. Considering that Palpatine's part Psychic on his typing, maybe he can eventually pick up stray thoughts on Right's personal connection with the Gods, and use said connections for his own advantage? Considering how upset Right is about not being there to help both hometown and Gods when they needed it the most, now would be a good time for someone to take advantage of the anger and sadness hidden in his heart.

Ooooooh. This sounds like fun to me! Palps would definitely attempt such shenanigans. All in the name of... guiding Union's youth?

Well, Maka's the daughter of Spirit Albarn, who serves as an adviser to Councilman Mort (aka who Lord Death ended up being in the AU). "Mr. Mort" has done a lot to support Maka living on her own away from her dad on the condition that she contact him every week, though Maka works very hard in her own right. Both of her parents were involved in politics up until her mom left Spirit and the city (she was presumed dead up until undeniable proof that she's alive surfaced). But she works hard and always respects her elders (except Spirit but he's like 35, their relationship is uh, complicated? And he has a Reputation).

She's got a shitton of anger and growing pains in her through the past and the everything present that she's just not acknowledging and doesn't know how to handle. It's starting to build into suspicion of outsiders to Union, but Maka's trying her damnedest to suppress that since it goes against her morals.

Ironically part of her Enlightened ability is perception, but it certainly wouldn't see through Pap's ability, given that she's like 16 and still fairly inexperienced with it. idk I'm just throwing out stuff that'd be relevant??

Palpatine might definitely know her, because of her tie to another Councilman, if not well; he's always been nice. I could also see interesting interactions, since, well, frustration and anger!

The Isley family is one of Union's most affluent noble families. Pamela's father is a high ranking engineer. I...am probably going to go with some of her relatives perishing during the Elite Four attack just to move her up in the line of succession. Because I'm mean like that. ;)

Pamela herself is a fairly powerful Englightened with Grass/Poison abilities. She doesn't make use of the pheromone aspect of her abilities to manipulate others, but Palpatine could offer her some "well meaning guidance" about that?

Sure! This sounds good to me! I don't think that he would outright tell her to use the pheromones to manipulate people, but.

He can always hint that it might not be such a bad thing when she has a good idea that she feels strongly about. After all, it is non-violent and she's proven herself time and again, so why shouldn't she take charge a little more and be given more power and influence?
