AU PLANNING MEME (FEBRUARY + MARCH)

Given the nature of AU, below is a form that can be used for planning purposes when plotting out your character. While it is not required to fill out the form, we encourage you take a look at the listings in this post and use them as a guide when setting up plots or planning character backgrounds.

Character Name: Adell
Canon Name: Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories
Brief History: A bold, brash young man from the village of Holt, on the Netherworld of Veldime, which was cursed to turn all humans into demons. The only one not affected by the curse, Adell set out to break the curse to save his family and the people of Veldime. Heroic, forthright, unshakable of spirit, and smarter than he might appear, though filled with Honor Before Reason. Hates lies, trickery, and using underhanded tactics in fighting. Also a fight-happy Blood Knight sort who secretly enjoys the thrill of a tough battle. A perpetual straight-man to a lot of the wackiness that generally goes on in the Disgaea series, though certainly not above it all.


AU Ideas: A Calderan to the very core. Still believes heavily in honor, fair play, justice, and honesty. Originally from a small, poor village outside of Caldera's main city, Adell earned his first title, "Demon Hunter," for protecting his village at a young age from a deranged and notorious Enlightened that threatened it and for turning him over to the Rock Legion single-handedly before they could apprehend him. An auspicious start for a young Earthkin. Afterward, he continued rigorous self-imposed training and discipline in preparation for possibly joining the Steel Battalion.

However, when the nearby Union was attacked by the Elite Four, once the news reached him, he seethed with anger. Union had been Caldera's ally, and since opening relations with them in recent months, his home village had finally started to pick up in commerce thanks to trade. Feeling compelled to help those who helped him, he packed up his things and headed to Union to see how he could be of aid.

Adell's typing is Fire/Fighting, his special Enlightened Ability is either God of War (owing to Disgaea's ridiculous over the top fighting antics, see below) or Mastery of Battle (owing to his own Blood Knight tendencies). I admittedly lean more toward the former, with his backstory as presented. His initial Pokemon companion will be a Torchic.

Looking For: Friends, companions, allies, like-minded-individuals, and some friendly rivals. Perhaps someone he doesn't see eye to eye with too. Also something leading to some good laughs. Anything, really!

Adell vs. an insane blonde royal with immense talents and no social awareness? Nah, can't see that working at all.

I'm planning for Raquna to be a Calderan and a member of the Steel Battalion! If she's met Adell, it's pretty likely that she's at least a little fond of him, she'd like his attitude.

I'd be all for it! Maybe she could've seen/heard of/met him when he hauled "the demon" into the Rock Legion? That might've been something of a spectacle.

Honestly by being a member of the Steel Battalion would earn quite a bit of respect from Adell to begin with, so I could see them getting along quite well! Anything specific you want to plan for them to know about one another?

Pamela was responsible for using her Enlightened abilities to help Caldera with their crops while Gigas was trying to starve them out with the siege and was heavily involved in the diplomatic negotiations with Gigas to make Gigas leave Caldera alone. She also got Union involved in building an agricultural center in Caldera to prevent against future sieges. He's probably at least heard of her, if not saw her around during Union's involvement.

That would definitely be something he's heard about, and definitely something he'd be grateful for. I figure his village was a farming one, like how Holt was in Disgaea 2, so if she's done a lot for Caldera's agriculture? There's no way he wouldn't have heard of her at least.

Though not much of a farmer himself, if/when they meet, she can probably expect a lot of gratitude!

But no, Hayato and Adell have a lot in common it looks like when it comes to things like Justice! He himself was a photographer that was known for running around exposing corruption and that took pictures of the Gigan-Caldera conflict before he wound up MIA in a nasty battle, so Adell is free to have heard of him or seen his work before he went missing.

I like that idea, having heard of a photographer like that! I'll go with having heard of and seen his work. He'd be happy to ever meet him. XD

I see your Fire/Fighting God of War and raise you a Fighting/Fire God of War. They should be punch-friends.

If I had caught you sooner I would have attempted to recruit you for my plan to make every badass fighty redhead AU'd into a fanalis.

What's a fanalis, out of curiosity?

In canon (and more or less the same in BNW), the Fanalis are a tribe/race of badass hunters and warriors who all have superhuman strength, speed, toughness, and senses at the cost of being really lousy at magic (In this universe they have a noted antipathy for pokemon, who tend to think they smell funny.).

In BNW, the Fanalis were very small in number, so the ones who didn't leave their homeland to be warriors or bodyguards or whatever ended up getting overwhelmed by regular humans and captured to be sold as slaves, scattering them across the world and basically destroying anything resembling a Fanalis culture. Morgiana was captured when she was a tiny little kid and so knows basically nothing about them.

I like that explanation of why they're not great with Pokemon. XD

I probably could've made something like that work, though. Still, I dunno if Adell could be descended from that tribe and not know it, though with much of its traits washed out?

It is possible he might have had a bit of fanalis blood a couple generations back. Or maybe he's just also a redhead who's strong by total coincidence. Either way, Morgiana would at least ask him about it, to which "Never heard of them" might just be the answer!
